This festival is celebrated with a belief that Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, bestows His blessings on His devotees on this day. Amrit time is 08:01 and 09:32.
Ganpati ji can also be brought home (Avahana or Welcome) during the Shubh time which is between 11:03 and 13:28. The Mahurut for evening time would be the Labh time which is between 17:06 and 18:37.

As per Hindu calendar and Indian vedic Astrology Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the fourth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada, which falls around August or September. This day is celebrated as a Festival all over India with much fanfare and lots of celebrations with devotional songs accompanied with drum beats, dances.
As the Hindu Legend goes that goddess Parvati had created Lord Ganesha out of clay and breathed him to life. Letting him stand guard at the door, Goddess Parvati went to have her bath. When her husband, Lord Shiva returned, the child who had never seen him stopped him. Ganesha did not allow Shiva to enter and finally an enraged Shiva severed the head of the child. Goddess Parvati returned to find her son dead and was distraught and asked Shiva to revive him. Shiva cut off the head of an elephant and fixed it on the body of Ganesha and giving birth to elephant-headed Ganesha.
The festival starts with bringing home of Lord Ganesha idols, now days you get beautifully crafted images of Lord Ganpathi. These idols are put in home or especially made pandals. Pooja can be done for one and a half day, 3, 5, 7, 9 or full 11 days. After celebration, the time of farewell comes and the idol of the beloved God is immersed in water. The celebration ends with the immersion of the idols of lord Ganesha accompanied by loud shouts of 'Ganapati Bappa Moraya'and then taken on the 11th day from the day of installing the idols in a procession know as Ganesh Visarjan where devotees sing and dance before immersing Lord Ganesh idol to the water symbolizing the removal of all obstacles and misfortunes of his devotees and retuning to Mount Kailash to his parents.
